MEDIA RELEASE

New portal offers 2019 NCCD guidelines, free e-learning, podcasts, templates and case studies

Wednesday 26 June 2019

A NEW online portal packed with information about the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) has attracted more than 70,000 users and 2.5 million page views since going live in February.

School communities are encouraged to visit the portal for the 2019 NCCD guidelines, as each jurisdiction prepares for the 2 August reference date for 2019.

The NCCD Portal provides valuable information that supports the teaching and learning of students with disability. It also promotes a consistent approach to recording and reporting information about students in Australian schools who are receiving educational adjustments because of disability. The NCCD captures the work of schools in helping all students with disability to participate in education on the same basis as their peers.

Education Services Australia CEO Andrew Smith said the NCCD Portal was a comprehensive online resource to support principals, teachers and school support staff to understand and complete the NCCD.

‘The NCCD Portal is a single, essential source of information relating to the NCCD,’ Mr Smith said. ‘It includes free resources for teachers and principals, such as case studies, podcasts, suggested timetables for action, and templates to improve the quality of data collection. It also helps teachers, principals, families and carers to understand the legal framework for supporting students with disability.’

Registration on the portal allows users to access free e-learning courses covering the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Disability Standards for Education 2005 and more. To date, 16,000 people have undertaken professional learning through the site.

Data for the NCCD provided by all Australian schools is submitted to the Australian Government Department of Education every year. The data is used to calculate the student with disability loading in recurrent funding for schools provided by the Australian Government. The data submitted for the purposes of the NCCD must not explicitly identify any student.

The 2019 NCCD guidelines are available on the portal. The portal includes contacts in each jurisdiction and sector for educators requiring local support or advice.

Quality data on the number of students with disability receiving support to access education, and the level of adjustments being provided, supports governments to make the best policy and funding decisions.

The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD) is an annual collection of information about Australian school students with disability. The NCCD enables schools, education authorities and governments to better understand the needs of students with disability and how they can be best supported at school.

School leaders, teachers and support teams can access professional learning modules, podcasts, and other resources for self-directed and blended learning through the portal. There are also videos, infographics and information for parents, carers and guardians.

The interactive portal has information and practical advice for schools to support them to complete the NCCD. The site also provides a suite of professional e-learning modules to uphold the legal obligations of the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005.
